The 10 Best Books I Read in 2022

Bibliophiles, hello again! Delivering on my promised follow-up to 2022’s 2-part Recent Reads with a careful selection of my very favoritest of favorite books I read last year.

I don’t set reading goals for myself, focusing instead on enjoying it so completely that it stays the prolific hobby it’s always been for me. I shared all about how and when and where I read a lot in this earlier blog post, and the upshot of it for 2022 is a sum total of 40 books. You can appreciate, then, how nit-picky I had to be to pick the 10 best, when all 40 were vetted first (thank you, Goodreads!) and hence probably good in the first place. What will make the heavy hand wringing worth it though, is if you get to discover a favorite or two of your own from the list below. ❤️

Without further delay, here are my ten favorite books of 2022 ranked in order. I have little summaries for each of the titles in either this edition or this edition of Recent Reads if you’d like to know more about my thoughts on any of them.

  1. Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka

  2. The Idea of You by Robinne Lee

  3. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

  4. Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead

  5. Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell

  6. The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Keller

  7. The Candy House by Jennifer Egan

  8. Book Lovers by Emily Henry

  9. Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

  10. Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson

Honorary mentions: Pride, Prejudice and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev, Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen, and Seven Days in June by Tia Williams.

Do you have any favorites I should know about? Let’s discuss!

Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!
XO Sushmitha :)
