Turtleneck Sweater Weather: Maroon Bells, Colorado

Join me for a lakeside picnic today, pretty please? :) The famed Maroon Bells were high on our list of things to see in Colorado, so off we went one gorgeous fall morning, picnic blanket and camera in tow. Having gone down that Google Images rabbit hole when researching the Bells, I admit our expectations were pretty high.. Despite that, K and I must have looked at each other and gone "Wow!" atleast a hundred times within our first half hour there. The trio of snow-capped peaks against the lake is a truly stunning sight, only made better by the golden Aspens lining the range. I'd advise planning ahead if you're visiting as you can only get to Maroon Lake by bus (unless you get there before sunrise), but it's really not a hassle as they're frequent and inexpensive from Aspen. If you have a friendly bus driver like we did, you'll also get a guided tour with all sorts of fun facts as you make the steep drive up the mountain! My other tip (mostly for fellow non-outdoorsy peeps ;)) is to wear or carry sneakers as there are a couple of trails to hike around the lake. We did the short 'scenic' trail but the longer 'Crater Lake' trail seems to offer bonus views from a higher altitude.

I wore this cozy turtleneck sweater and these moto leggings together and as separates multiple times over the trip and since, so I can really attest to their comfort and warmth! I hate nothing more than being chilly and uneasy during fall and winter activities, and this look took me from day to night effortlessly, making for the perfect day spent marooned at Maroon Lake. :)

Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!
