Color Matters.

Swing 1

One windy, blustery mess of a day a couple of weeks ago, I wore this perfect summer outfit out for lunch with friends. Given my permanent state of amnesia when it comes to checking weather forecasts, this should not have surprised and hence, annoyed me. But it did. To the extent that I was yelling at the Gods in the sky like a mad woman on a crowded street. The Gods answered with a long and heavy downpour (of course! Not the first FML moment of the day, thankfully.), leaving us with just about five minutes to shoot these pictures. Anecdotes aside, I'm just glad I avoided the infamous wasting of a nice outfit on an insignificant day. ;)

I call this the perfect summer outfit because it combines so many trends of the season so seamlessly. There's my most beloved pom-pom trim on the swing tank (as evidenced first in this post).. the stripes have a mix of aztec and tribal prints.. the skirt is a fun neon orange, which along with all the colors in the tank, makes for a big happy basket of summer brights. Enough reasons to un-furrow the eyebrows and look happy for the camera, I would say.

When wearing neon or/and other bright colors, I always pick one color to be the focus and plan the rest of the outfit around it. Neutral colored accessories, such as black in my outfit, can then be used to tie the look together. As mentioned in an earlier post, a great way to add a dose of color while maximizing the petite girl's leg length is through high- waisted, fitted bottoms that end above the knee. The skirt I'm wearing accentuates the waist and lengthens the legs.. the ribbed chevron detail doesn't hurt, either. ;)

{For all my fellow Indians reading, I seem to have squeezed in some orange, green and white! Happy 67th, India! :) }
